Alfred Blatter (*1937)

Biography

Alfred Blatter received his D.M.A. in composition-theory from the University of Illinois, where he studied with Robert Kelly, Ben Johnston, and Kenneth Gaburo. He is a hornist, published composer, and author of Instrumentation and Orchestration (second edition), published by Schirmer Books, and Revisiting Music Theory: A Guide to the Practice , published by Routledge..

He is professor emeritus at Drexel University, where he taught music theory and was head of the department of performing arts. Dr. Blatter joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 1989.
