Gerald B Webster (*1944)

Widely regarded as one of the finest trumpet teachers, Gerald B. Webster (*1944) has taught and mentored generations of players over a 42-year university career. He held faculty positions at Western Illinois University, Washington State University, and Portland State University, where he retired as Professor of Trumpet and Brass Area Coordinator.
As a performer, Webster has served as Principal Trumpet with the Spokane Symphony, the Expo ‘74 World’s Fair Orchestra, and the Portland, Boston, and Pacific Baroque Orchestras. He toured extensively as a soloist and with the internationally recognized Edward Tarr Brass Ensemble, and has been featured at numerous national and international music conferences. His solo CD Gabriel’s Choice, recorded with organist Paul Klemme, has received critical acclaim.
Webster is the author of more than 20 brass publications, including the internationally recognized Method for Piccolo Trumpet, Improving Intonation, and When Will the Walls Come Tumbling Down?, addressing gender equity in the brass world. He also contributed a major article on brass embouchure to the latest edition of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians.
