Hiroshi Hoshina (*1936)
Biography
Hiroshi Hoshina was born in Tokyo on 1936. He is a graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and is currently a member of faculty of music composition course at his alma mater. In 1960, he won First Prize in the orchestra category of the composition division at the 1960 Japan Music Competition.
He is a former Professor at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and the Hyogo University of Teacher Education. He is regarded as being one of the most distinguished composers in the field of wind instruments music in Japan. He is similarly respected for his unique method of teaching principles of performance. He has composed many pieces for orchestra, wind concert band, opera, solo instruments pieces and various types of chamber music.
His most notable works include: Catastrophe - Caprice for wind band and Pastorale and Variations for orchestra. He has also published books on performance theory and conducting and gives lectures.
