Jean-Christophe Cholet (*1962)
Biography
Jean-Christophe Cholet, born 1962, French pianist, composer and arranger, received his formal classical training at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he received his diploma in piano, along with a master for harmony, counterpoint and fugue. Following those classical studies, he dedicated himself to jazz music. His passion for writing music began at age fifteen, at which time he came in contact with a very different musical world. His work was further developed through training with Bernard Maury, Bill Dobbins, Kenny Barron, Richie Beirach and Lee Konitz.
Within the confines of the French Jazz scene, Jean-Christophe Cholet remains one of the most peculiar and diverse personalities in improvised music. His many (over 250 registered) compelling and eclectic musical projects are being developed in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Canada. He has written for symphony orchestras, choirs, wind bands, but also for dancers, circus or theater shows.
He currently appears on stage with talents like Charlie Mariano, Mathias Ruegg (Vienna Art Orchestra), Michel Portal, Paolo Fresu, Matthieu Michel, Jon Sass, Wolfgang and Christian Mutshpiel, Wolfgang Pushnig, Steve Potts, Claudio Pontiggia, Rick Margitza…
