Biography

Juan J. Colomer

Born in 1966 in Alzira, in the province of Valencia, Spain, Juan J. Colomer began playing at the age of eight with the local Society of Music (Banda), and completed his trumpet studies at the Valencia Conservatory as the student of Leopoldo Vidal while obtaining his diploma in composition as the student of Amando Blanquer.

In 1990 he left for the United States to attend the Berklee College of Music, Boston, where he studied the making of film scores - a sector in which he subsequently began a career that would be punctuated by various international prizes, among them a first prize at the Festival of Monte Carlo.

He later moved to Los Angles, where he composed, arranged and orchestrated numerous film scores while perfecting his art with the great masters of the genre such as Henri Mancini, Mark Isham, Bill Conti and Arthur Hiller, to mention only a few.

He has orchestrated several pieces for Plácido Domingo - for performance at Christmas concerts in Vienna notably, and more recently for the Three Tenors concert in Paris, conducted by James Levine.

His musical activities also include successful ventures into the realm of Pop Rock.

In the domain of classical music, he has written many pieces for various chamber music formations and for wind ensemble. Notable as well is his oncerto for Trumpet and Orchestra written for Luis González, principal trumpet of the Madrid Symphony Orchestra.
