Maurice Benterfa (1937-2018)

Renowned for his expertise in brass pedagogy, Maurice Benterfa (1937–2018) became one of the most respected teachers of his generation. His influence extended worldwide, where he was highly sought after for master classes, mentoring both young students and professional musicians.
Maurice Benterfa was born in Toulouse, France. A First Prize winner at the Paris Conservatory (studying under Ludovic Vaillant), he served as principal trumpet of the Rhône-Alpes Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lyon Opera. He also taught at the Lyon Conservatoire National de Région.
A distinguished juror, he was a member of the panel for the Maurice André International Competition in Paris and vice-president of the Narbonne International Competition for Brass Quintets. He also held positions as a professor at the Perpignan National Conservatory and as a pedagogical advisor to the French Ministry of Culture and Communication.
