About Trumpet Concerto No 1
The longest and most developed of Hertel’s trumpet concertos
The present concert is the longest and most highly developed of Hertel’s three trumpet concertos from the point of view of form. All of them were probably written for a certain Mr. Hese, concerto player at Schwerin court who must have been a great performer: Let us remember that he played this and other pieces, with all their virtuoso runs, quasi-cadenzas, and difficult figuration, without valves!
